Page 7: Where are you getting the business from ? Brokers and Load boards

Brokers and load boards go together

Brokers are transportation companies who post their loads on load boards.

A load board, also known as a freight board or freight matching service, helps to connect shippers and carriers. It is an online marketplace where truck owner-operators, shippers, and freight brokers can post the loads they have available as well as find available loads.

You or your dispatcher will access different load boards to get access to loads, it's either from a load board where everyone has access or from a broker, big brokers have their own load boards.

Each log board has a rating system, where all parties conducting business can rate and review each others performance. It is crucial for your business to keep not good but very good rating history so you can keep getting the loads.

Biggest load board is Central Dispatch followed by Super dispatch, where majority of brokers post loads. Before getting a load, first you need to be signed up with the broker offering that particular load, on either load board. When you try to get a load, the broker will ask the name of your company and MC or DOT, so they can check if you have a contract with them, if you do not, they will send you some paper work to fill out and you will be good to go, this process may take from few hours to days.

NOTE: Some brokers will require that you have your company opened and active for at least 6 months and others for atleast 1 year.

Thats why is better to search the brokers and sign up with them in advance.

Very important to keep a good relationship with the brokers, do not break their terms, respect their requests and make sure you follow their rules, always keep them updated if there is any issue with the load, keep a good communication, inform them in advance if you are late, is there is any issue with the load, customer, location etc. DO NOT wait for them to call you. This is the way to good business.
